Local government entities include the county, cities and towns, community colleges, and school, hospital, utility, port, fire, water, sewer, park, drainage, and diking districts. Within the geographic boundaries of Snohomish County, there are also three sovereign Native American tribal governments.
A primary goal of League is to gather and distribute information about our local governments. We do this as citizens, for citizens, to promote informed participation in government. Our standards for compiling information about local governments are that it be (1) unbiased—which means that it favors no special interest, not even that of the government entities themselves—and (2) nonpartisan, that is, not subject to the dictates of any political party.
The first in what we hope to be a series of publications about governments in Snohomish County is a pamphlet called Know Your County. You can view Know Your County online (click here), or contact us for a printed copy.
With the Internet, you can also read what most of these government entities want to tell you about themselves. You can use an Internet search engine to find official sites for most of the government entities listed below. Or, you can visit our "They Represent You" page, which has links and contact information for these various government entities.
