Mission The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government and influences public policy through education and advocacy. |
Local Board PoliciesSee also...State Board Policies 1— Active participation in political affairs by board members may reflect on the nonpartisanship status of the League. Each instance is to be judged on its own merits, considering the sensitivity of the specific portfolios and the extent to which the public identifies a board member's activities with those of the League. At no time may a president or voter service chair hold public elected office, make a personal endorsement of a candidate, write a contribution check for a candidate or party, hold coffees for candidates, or run for a partisan office. 2— Membership lists are to be used strictly as a tool for League business. 3— Expenses of delegates to state convention and state council meetings will include lodging, meals, registration fees and travel expenses of fifteen cents per mile per car. Transportation expenses to a national convention will include air fare and equalization fee. Babysitting expenses may be considered by the board. 4— When possible, the cost of meals for luncheon or dinner speakers should be covered by the price paid by the members in attendance. 5— As at other levels of League, no one may speak or act in the name of the League of Women Voters of Snohomish County except the president or an authorized representative. 6— Membership subsidy will be awarded at the discretion of the president and the treasurer. A prospective subsidized member will be sent three issues of The Voter and be expected to attend two meetings or events during those three months after which time the prospective member will be accepted to join. The subsidy will be reviewed annually. 7—Pages on the LWV of Snohomish County website are to be maintained in formats that are accessible to individuals that use text browsers, portable/small displays, or screen reading software (adaptive technology). 8—Except for distinct portions of the League website devoted to voter information, the League website may link to websites of organizations, coalitions, and events that are in general agreement with LWV of Snohomish County positions and strategies or that together provide background information that is balanced (representative of various creditable sides of an issue). That portion of the League website that focuses on citizen education/study may also link to the websites of entities (corporations, foundations, etc.) that have provided us with major funding, to websites of other nonpartisan political groups, and to websites of project partners, provided that the external link is appropriately placed, and provided that these organizations include reciprocal links to the LWV of Snohomish County on their websites. However, that portion of our website that provides voter information may link only to League-sponsored websites that focus on information about candidates and political parties, to voter information coalition partner websites, and to relevant government websites. The League board will decide if external links on our website meet our criteria. |
