The League of Women Voters of Washington Education Fund is a tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service code. This status means that contributions made to the LWVWA Education Fund by individuals and corporations are deductible for federal income tax purposes.
To comply with IRS requirements, any LWV of Snohomish County project funded by donations made to its LWVWA Education Fund account must meet the following criteria:
- It must be educational. The purpose of the project must be to inform the public in a fair and objective manner.
- It must reach a diverse audience. The project must be designed to serve the general public.
- It cannot support LWV membership activities. The project's resources cannot be used to recruit members to the League of Women Voters.
Purposes for which LWVSC uses tax-deductible donations may include publication of voters' guides, pro/con fact sheets, directories of elected officials, and 'know your government entity' booklets; or League-sponsored candidate forums and educational conferences.
These funds are never used to support or oppose any legislation, political program, or candidate; nor are they used in any way on issue advocacy.
The League of Women Voters of Snohomish County also accepts donations that are not tax-deductible. To make a donation that is not tax-deductible, make check payable to "LWVSC" and mail it to us.
