2020 Marks a Century of the League of Women Voters and the League of Women Voters of Washington Working to Create a More Perfect DemocracyThe League of Women Voters was founded by Carrie Chapman Catt in 1920, just six months before the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified, giving all American women the right to vote after a 72-year fight for women’s suffrage. From the beginning the League has been an active, grassroots organization whose members play a critical role in advocacy and (voter) education. As we reach our 100th, the League is setting the stage for vibrant growth, with a new generation of leaders committed to active participation in government. |
LWV is an organization fully committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in principle and in practice. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are central to the organization’s current and future success in engaging all individuals, households, communities, and policy makers in creating a more perfect democracy.
